The legendary "Adler" will run again PDF Print E-mail

After the fire in the vehicle depot, the DB Board of Management decides on the reconstruction of the historical locomotive. The project will be integrated into the apprentices' training in special workshops.

The fully operable replica of the "Adler", which was destroyed in the fire in the vehicle depot of the DB Museum will run again. "The Board of Management of Deutsche Bahn AG has decided to make a true-to-the-original reconstruction of the "Adler" replica within the scope of our apprentices' training together with our special workshops", says Hartmut Mehdorn, Head of Deutsche Bahn.

The conditions are favourable since the drawings of the destroyed locomotive and the four coaches are archived at DB Museum. Reconstruction in the special depot in Meiningen (Thuringia) is to be completed by 2010 so that the "Adler" will be ready for running again for the 175th anniversary of the first railway in at the latest. The original "Adler" opened the Railway Age in on the Nuremberg-Fürth line in 1835.

A new exhibition on the history of the railway in the 19th century was opened at the DB Museum in at the end of October. In addition to many other exhibits, an original coach from the "Adler" train is on display.

Webmaster's note: At the Marklin breakfast on November 26, Marklin representative Jeff Stimson mentioned that the company will be coming out with a special model of the Adler in HO scale. The HO models will be available in European 3-rail and US 2-rail versions. Proceeds will be used to restore the facilities and equipment damaged in the fire.
