Site Transfer Progress PDF Print E-mail

Betcha didn't know there was one going on, huh? Good reason - it hasn't happened just yet.

If you'd like to catch up on the reasons for this transfer, go HERE.

I'm having to do a lot of manual transfers of data between this host and our new one, all related to a major update of Joomla!, our content management system. They've made enough changes that there's no easy way to upgrade. I'm taking my time and making sure I don't lose anything.

If you want to see how I'm doing, the new site is HERE. Keep in mind this is a work in progress and things might not work as expected. It may go down totally with no warning. At the moment it's a rough recreation of this site, since I'm working mostly on the back end with the database, making sure I have everything where I want it before migrating to the new version of Joomla!. The biggest headache is copying and archiving all these news posts.

I plan to redesign the look of the site when the upgrade is finished. When all THAT is done, I'll tell our new host to point our domain name at their server - with the new site - and this old one will be deleted.

EDIT, April 10: Oddly enough, when I returned to continue my transfer work, the old site's main page didn't show up. Nothing, nada. According to DH2's Customer Care, the account was still active, and when I signed into cPanel, all our files were still there. I could still sign into the Joomla backend, so I could still work. The gallery still showed up, if you had a direct link to it. I've downloaded the entire site and backed up all our databases, just in case it goes POOF.

EDIT, April 11th: It appears I need to alter my plans somewhat: you'll get to watch the updating progress live. DH2.net apparently has taken offense to my complaints about their service and blocked access to the home page on our old site. So I've told our domain registrar to point our domain at our new site early. I sincerely apologize about the problems this could potentially cause.

If you were a registered user with the site before the transfer, your info is still here. It all transferred intact.
